Supreme court of the Netherlands upheld the complaint of Russia in the case of "Yukos"

Supreme court of the Netherlands declared admissible the appeal of Russia to the court of Appeal of the Hague on recovery in favour of the former owners of Yukos $57 billion, according to the message of the Ministry of justice.

the Netherlands Supreme court will consider arguments on numerous legal errors and improper refusal to consider evidence of fraud the former owners of “Yukos”, who control the plaintiffs to pursue claims against Russia to demand payment of billions of dollars of compensation.

a Previous decision of the court of Appeal of the Hague contrary to the public policy of the Netherlands and the EU, noted the Ministry of justice.

the Trial lasts many years. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the three largest former shareholders of “Yukos” – Veteran Petroleum Ltd., Yukos Universal Ltd. and Hulley Enterprises Ltd., which control the ex-owners of the company. First international arbitration at the Hague July 18, 2014 ordered Russia to pay the former owners of Yukos $50 billion. In April 2016, the court of the Hague quashed this decision.

18 Feb 2020 Hague court of Appeal returned to the former major shareholders of the oil company “YUKOS” the right to compensation as compensation for alleged damages: including penalties, the amount rose to $57 billion.

the Oil company “YUKOS” was created in 1993. In 2003, the management and owners of the company was charged with tax evasion and violation of other laws of the Russian Federation. The court after investigation of many criminal cases sentenced the main owners of the company — Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Platon Lebedev, Leonid Nevzlin to long terms of imprisonment. Khodorkovsky and Lebedev, and other employees of the company involved in this matter, he served his sentence. Nevzlin managed to escape. Alexei Pichugin, the former head of the security Department of Yukos, is serving a life sentence for multiple murders and assassinations.
