News about the planned third season of “Bridgerton”: The showrunner explained why the Netflix series will differ from the book. In addition, one of the actresses will be exchanged.
Taking to Instagram this week, Nicola Coughlan let the cat out of the bag: “Like Lady Whistledown, I’ve long kept a big secret. Now I can finally tell you that Season 3 ‘Bridgerton’ tells the story of Colin and Penelope.” , wrote the actress, who stars on the show as Penelope Featherington. This came as a surprise to many fans, because according to the novel, it would have been the turn of the Bridgerton brother Benedict’s story – and not that of Colin, played by Luke Newton.
The Netflix series is based on the novels by American author Julia Quinn, who dedicated a book and love story to each of the eight Bridgerton siblings. Producer Shonda Rhimes has announced from the start that she plans to tell all eight stories, but showrunners will decide how and when. Jess Brownell is taking on this role again for the upcoming season and she has already explained why the change came about.
Francesca Bridgerton is being recast
“I really think it’s time for Penelope and Colin. Because we’ve known these two actors since the first season, we’re interested in them,” she says. In the last season there were moments between the two when Colin almost realized that Penelope had feelings for him. “Rather than repeating that dynamic, we wanted to take them into their season together. It really was the perfect moment for that,” Brownell said.
What will also change in season three: Franscesca Bridgerton, one of the younger siblings, will be cast with a new actress. Previously she was played by Ruby Stokes – who, however, was pulled during the filming of season two: Netflix had her for a leading role in the series “Lockwood
