a 37-year-old Maxim Kolpakov graduated from the faculty of computational mathematics Kemerovo state University. While still a student he started an apprenticeship as a programmer in a local Internet service provider. And in 2005, he tried himself in the role of a businessman – made electronic map of Moscow, published several thousand CDs with it and began to distribute them. But soon a map of the 2GIS Kemerovo did, and the first business Kolpakova closed. Died from competition with a big company, he recalls. After the failure Kolpakov decided to act in the team, teaming up with local programmers. In 2011, eight partners (later became 10) has opened a digital Agency “Adventa”. Making websites and applications under the order, the partners gained experience and decided to create his own project. The idea came by itself. By 2014, five of the founders of the “Twenty” already had children. Why not make a app that helps to educate children? The main product was the electronic diary of the child Wachanga: funny phrases, photos, videos, notes parents of the first tooth and the first step of the baby. In six years, a team from Kemerovo has released seven different applications: from the calendar of the menstrual cycle for women to guide the education of children up to seven years. Collectively they have downloaded about 6 million times, the active users – about 1.1 million 85% of downloads were from abroad. Proceeds from monetization of applications in 2019 amounted to $130 000.
Free is not growing
Team Kolpakova start with the fact that in 2014 made a website where parents can upload baby pictures, to do signatures and to fill out questionnaires about the different periods of life of the baby. For example, to indicate his height and weight, what was the first word when erupted or the tooth fell out. The site called “diary of a child”. This diary was then printed in a photobook or show relatives and friends on the website. The idea users had to pay for the ability to attach additional photos, use stickers and invite new relatedof ICA to view, said Kolpakov. For the year on the website through online advertising has signed up nearly 50,000 people. But without ads, users did not come. The developers got upset and decided to modify the idea.
They’re scared, says Director of IIDF accelerator Dmitry Kalaev. On the contrary, investors wary of apps with 100% organic traffic, because it is virtually impossible to accelerate, he says. Most applications, it is important to attract customers through paid channels and marketing, Kala said.
