Tragic accident: Parents take their children for a walk along the dyke on the French coast. Then an unusually high wave rushes in and wipes out half of the family.
A wave off the coast of Brittany in France killed a couple and their teenage daughter.
Three other children of the couple survived the tragedy at Plogoff unscathed, as reported by the broadcaster France Info, citing the prefecture. Around 100 rescue workers searched for the victims. The family was walking across a public dike near the Pointe du Raz, a rocky cape, when they were likely caught in an unusually high wave.
However, there was no particularly problematic weather situation, although there is always a danger from the sea, as the prefecture announced. A preliminary investigation is to clarify with the help of witness statements how the accident could have happened. The family is said to be from the region.
