The Hollywoodklassieker Casablanca gets 75 years after its release, a Dutch theatrical adaptation.
Matzer Theaterproducties and Forest theatre Productions bring Casablanca from march 2019 in a new stage adaptation of playwright Jibbe Willems.
Stefan Rokebrand (Chez Bread, cell block H) and Jamie Grant (Clamp) play the doomed lovers Rick and Isla, between whom the passion strikes when they come together during the Second world War encounter in the Moroccan city.
The film Casablanca was nominated for eight Oscars and won three, including the prestigious prize for best film. The lead roles in the film version were played by Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.
Madeleine Matzer is the director of the play. “What does this say strong love story against a backdrop of war and turmoil about us, and about the now in which we live?”, says Matzer. “I look forward to this together with the fine team and cast on the stage to go find out.”
The performance is on Saturday 16 march in première in Den Bosch and touring after that until the end of June along several theatres in the Netherlands.
