Two days earlier, a similar action was held and the American Embassy in Moscow. Later the LGBT flag from the U.S. Embassy building was removed, RIA Novosti reported. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that to break the current our country, the law banning propaganda of homosexuality among minors is unacceptable.
And the journalist of TV channel “Russia 1” Andrei Medvedev in his telegram channel thanked American diplomats for being honest.
“I Think it’s called coming out. Not to say that we had no idea (…) Now know for sure — about you we were wrong” – he wrote.
the Law banning gay propaganda among children, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed in 2013. However, he repeatedly stressed that the rights of the LGBT community in Russia is no prejudice.
Meanwhile, the country’s partnerships “Five Eyes” — Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK and the USA urged Russia to fulfill its obligations to protect the rights of all citizens, including members of the LGBT community. This is stated in the document entitled “Joint statement, timed to coincide with pride month 2020”, published on the website of the British government.
