Siemens wants to invest in the coming years, up to 600 million euros in a project in Berlin. It is planned to convert the historic Siemens facilities in Berlin-Spandau a location for research and business incubators, shared with the group. Accordingly, it is the largest single investment in the history of the company in the Federal capital.
The focus is on future fields such as electromobility and Artificial intelligence, it said. At the same time, the industry is to transform the area into an urban district, in the Work, Research, Living and Learning are brought together. Federal Minister Peter Altmaier (CDU) praised the announcement as a great success for Germany as an innovation location. Siemens had also considered the possibility to invest the money in China.
Berlin’s governing mayor Michael Müller (SPD) was also pleased with the plans. The commitment of the group to the capital will put the “impetus for the next 20 years”, said Müller.
