The draft dates for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan have been released, but there are uncertainties surrounding the participation of the Indian men’s cricket team. Reports suggest that the Men in Blue are unlikely to travel to Pakistan for the tournament scheduled from 19 February to 9 March.
According to a report by Sports Tak on 6 July, it is highly unlikely that the Indian team will make the trip to Pakistan. The final decision lies with the Indian government, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plans to address this issue at the upcoming ICC meeting in Sri Lanka.
India has not visited Pakistan since 2008 and only played a bilateral series once in 2012–13. Even the Asia Cup in 2023, where India was supposed to travel to Pakistan, was conducted in a hybrid format with India’s matches, including the final, held in Sri Lanka.
The PCB has submitted a draft for the Champions Trophy 2025, with seven matches allocated to Lahore, five to Rawalpindi, and three to Karachi. The draft includes a match between India and Pakistan at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on March 1.
The opening match of the tournament will be in Karachi, with two semifinals in Karachi and Rawalpindi, and the final in Lahore. All of India’s matches, including potential semifinals, will be played in Lahore.
It is essential to note that the final decision regarding India’s participation in the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan rests with the Indian government. As the discussions progress in the upcoming ICC meeting, more details may emerge, shedding light on the future of the tournament.
