Hackers don’t just attack company accounts. The accounts of private Facebook, Instagram and Twitter users are also targeted. Dennis-Kenji Kipker, professor of IT security law and data protection expert, explains how attackers proceed, how private accounts can be protected and why he has a Facebook account but hardly ever uses it.
Professor Kipker, how often are private user accounts on social media attacked by hackers?
There are no official figures, but the number of these attacks has increased in recent years, in parallel with a general increase in the threat level associated with cybercrime. Internet crime is becoming more and more of a standardized process – and is often a very lucrative business for hackers.
