Under the motto “Far Out” Apple has invited to its most important event of the year. The group has a lot to show. Here you can find out what to expect.

Tonight at 7 p.m. German time it’s that time again: Like every September, Apple invites you to its most important event of the year. For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, Apple is even presenting the new iPhone in person in Cupertino, the star reports on site. Tim Cook and his team should have a lot to show.

iPhone 14: The small, the big

The most important new product is traditionally the new iPhone, or the new iPhones. As in previous years, according to the rumor mill, Apple is again bringing four devices with it, two basic and two Pro models each. The biggest change is probably the iPhone 14 (without Pro): The smaller Mini will be discontinued after two years. Instead, Apple is also offering a particularly large 6.7-inch model of the basic iPhone for the first time. As with the iPhone Pro, it should also be called “Max”. For the first time in several years, Apple is only offering two iPhone sizes: the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro in 6.1 inches and the two Max models in 6.7 inches.

Otherwise, unfortunately, relatively little is happening with the basic iPhones. They should keep the still very fast Apple processor A14 of the predecessor, the biggest upgrade is rumored to be a slightly better camera.

iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 14 Pro: The gap is growing

The gap to the pro will probably continue to grow. Apple’s noble iPhones should get significantly more innovations. In addition to a new A15 chip and significantly better, but also larger cameras, the front in particular is to be revised.

On the one hand, the bulge for the front camera and Apple’s face recognition FaceID will be significantly shrunken. The “Notch” cut-out from the upper edge gives way to a pill-shaped hole in the display over which the display continues. Rumor has it that Apple could fill the space gained in this way with additional information about the battery status.

On the other hand, Apple is also planning an innovation that is also known from the Apple Watch – and from Android smartphones for years: The display of the Pro models should also show information when it is actually switched off. For example, the display of the time and some widgets that will also arrive on the other iPhones with iOS 16, which is expected next week.

One change is likely to please customers less: According to rumors, all iPhones will be a good deal more expensive.

Apple Watch 8 – now even more elegant

Apple’s popular smartwatch will be available in three variants starting today. The basic model is visually based on the Apple Watch 7, the main innovation is rumored to be a faster processor – the last three models shared the same S5 chip. In addition, there is probably a new sensor that keeps an eye on the body temperature of the wearer. In the future you will be informed about fever by push message, but the female cycle and the fertile days should also be easier to understand.

As the second model, Apple is redesigning the Watch SE. The savings model should also get the new chip, but otherwise remain largely identical to its predecessor.

Apple Watch Pro: More of everything

Apple is saving the biggest innovations for a real new launch: the new luxury watch Apple Watch Pro. After the group tried several times with premium models that offered the same functions in a more elegant case, the new Apple Watch Pro should also offer real added value compared to the basic model for the first time. And not just because of a significantly larger display. Because with allegedly 49 millimeters it would be considerably larger than the previous “big” model with 45 mm diagonal.

The Apple Watch Pro should not only make an impression as a buzzer on the wrist. With sapphire glass and a particularly robust titanium case, the watch is aimed at outdoor fans, extreme and competitive athletes for the first time. The larger display should also keep them up to date with more information on the watch face.

However, this has its price: Analysts expect the Pro model to cost more than 1000 euros. However, competitors for similar products also call for this. The prices of the two simpler Apple Watches should also increase due to inflation in recent months. However, it will not be quite as expensive as the luxury model.

Apple Event: There’s that too

In addition to the stars of the Apple show, some prominent supporting actors are also expected. A new entry-level iPad, which is to receive the new design with flat edges and USB-C instead of Apple’s Lightning connector for the first time, is considered quite safe.

The first revision of the AirPods Pro presented in 2019 should also be considered set. Apple should treat its premium plugs to better sound and some new additional functions.

It is less certain whether Apple will also take on the HomePods or the AppleTV. The home entertainment division has been neglected in recent years despite the success of the Apple Music and Apple TV streaming offerings. Rumor has it that Apple could follow suit with a cheaper streaming box and revised HomePods. That doesn’t have to happen at today’s event, though.

It is very unlikely that Apple will use the event to show the next big thing: The entry into virtual reality in the form of data glasses, probably called “Reality One”, is still expected, but according to the chatty insiders, it should only be next year to be ready.
