It came as julekvelden on kulturkjerringa. To suddenly feel the lump in my throat and tears in my eyes on something basically as dry as the presentation of the “Msgs. St. 8: Culture’s power – the cultural policies for the future”. Indeed it is the first kulturmeldingen since 2004. The first opportunity to point to the “cultural policy challenges in the light of central trends in society”. To stake out the “overall direction of policy for arts funding”, to “determine the goals and explain national cultural policy objectives”. Trine Skei Grande has called it “the their intellectual property”.

– The finest, most amazing fuglebok I’ve ever seen!

It is a big deal.

But still.

Start to grin, somehow.

But then the set we there and then. Too many from the Culture of Norway squeezed into the tiny Vega scene in Hausmansgate. Presses us together as a kulturbudsjett we heard on the kulturministerens nine cultural policy goals for the future.

Erna had been by and come out of the closet as kulturkjerring. And Trine had dosed about the importance of focusing on the quality and digitization. She had talked about cultural policies as freedom of speech, she had talked about kunstpolitikk, globalization, the stock exchange and cathedral. It all sounded great and nice, but even though she performed it with his classic Carol the rhetoric and Trine-humor, could it strictly come from any culture with a capable ministry of taleskrivere in the back. Now, it is, strictly speaking, not Trines fault that her predecessors have emptied words of meaning.

Fortunately changed everything when she came to the point about the formation.

Yes. Formation. “A free and independent cultural life which promotes formation and critical reflection” is number two on the list of kulturministerens nine cultural policy goals. On the glossy stortingsmeldingspapiret it looks like the classic kultursvada.

But it was now her voice began to tremble. Maybe because she opened with telling about the old Left-men that focused on fellesskolen, and who radically show went Norwegian children out of farm work and factories. To empowering them, to teach them about reading, about writing, about music. To give them knowledge enough to think for themselves, that they should not be able to “duperes of the other”.

Now it was Carol engaged, she would do the same, today: “the Formation is not hat, morning coat and good manners. It can be really bad manners. It is not just a different culture, it is to know why you don’t like certain cultural expression. The western countries have forgotten this, and then you get people who rebel”.

And she quoted the Amalie Skram: “My goal is that others will see, understand and judge the least.”

It is so good that it hurts

Here we are at the core of the Skei Grandes project. That culture is for everyone. That it pertains to all. To educate and create a community. It is incredibly important – and especially important right now.

It was here I felt the lump in her throat. Because: In one way or another, we have managed to mess us away in a limiting kulturbegrep, a restrictive cultural policies, a limiting way to talk about culture. It creates confusion, it creates the trenches, it creates confusion and it creates the ideas that culture is only for the select few. While it really is so that we all love to talk about culture, talk about music, about movie, theatre, tv and dance, we are talking about letters to the editor in the newspapers, what we have on us, about what games we play, if you say meat, or angry, the song we just heard on the radio, that the quirky fugleboka is sold out, for the black!

And it is this mindset that makes it easy to think that culture is something narrow and strange, something we ignore, something we can cut, there are so few who cares anyway. That makes the culture of an easy rhetorical switch. It is just to fling out the word “elite”, then you have won the entire discussion.

But “no one should be able to use the elite as a rhetorical argument against the culture again,” said Trine Skei Grande from the Vega scene.

we to see if she manages to put action behind the words. For “Culture power” were, as reported, more an ideological platform than detailed policies. Here, there were few clear answers. It is not easy to spot on the real actions behind the great words. They should obviously be built stone for stone. With the new messages and new promises. A kunstnermelding, a child – and ungdomskulturmelding, a museumsmelding, a sprÃ¥kmelding, a national biblioteksstrategi and strategy for culture and tourism. All of this is going. It should be given priority and stakes out a course.

But even about Erna flottet themselves with the word of culture’s intrinsic value, open she did not pengepungen. Everything should be done within the current framework. If the priorities are as clear as the Trine sign, is it something that must necessarily break.

no Matter: the Uk to embark on a educational journey. It can’t be anything other than exciting.
